    Ugly House to Lovely House

We love a good house programme here at FLOOR_STORY and George Clarke is one of our favs. From Amazing Spaces to the Restoration Man, we love him nearly as much as Kevin McCloud. The team behind George's latest series, Ugly House to Lovely House, asked us to get involved and, as its him, we jumped at the chance.

In the first episode of the series aired this week, the show saw an ugly mid-century detached home transformed into a beautiful modernist statement. As always there was the usual mix of pre-build jitters and post-construction delight, but as the episode neared completion, we couldn't take our eyes off the open plan living space. The owners had cleverly kept the original parquet basket weave floor, matching it superbly through the rest of the space, but on top of that sat our beautiful Path rug by Catherine MacGruer. This olive green masterpiece is inspired by the Berlin metro and appropriately in its centenary, the Bauhaus movement.

Joined by four other qualities in the Catherine MacGruer x FLOOR_STORY capsule collection, Catherine has created abstract, modern designs that record angular architecture and strong geometric forms. Each one is beautifully handcrafted by FLOOR_STORY, with Path hand-tufted from wool and bamboo viscose to create the tonal linear geometric pattern. A big thank you to Edwina Boase (check out her IG here), the interior designer working with the amazing Mr Clarke, for choosing us to adorn this stunning modern home with more than a little dash of mid-century style.
