Cutting ties with an old rug is sometimes inevitable, where it goes next is vital.

Although our rugs are all high quality and built to last, we appreciate that there will be occasions where you'll be looking for a way to rehome your rug.

At the moment we don't offer a buyback service (although it is something we're looking into), but we can offer the following suggestions and advice on how to pass on your rug in the most ethical way possible, and avoid it ending up in landfill. If you have any questions on any of these, please feel free to give the showroom a ring on 020 7871 3013.

Perhaps jumping into buying an entirely new rug isn’t needed, could it be the case of giving an old rug a new lease of life? Our friends at Classic Rug Care are absolute experts in all things rug care & maintenance, so do get in touch with them directly to see what can be done with your existing rug.

This is the most sustainable option and cost effective too, a good quality rug can last generations if it’s given the right care.

2_Re-home

Find a new home for your rug. Provided that it is in a condition so that someone else can enjoy it, you can resell or just give it away via a trusted online platform. Perhaps a clean beforehand will add value if you’re hoping to sell - again Classic Rug Care sells products to help with this.

Vinterior is an interior specific platform, great for all things home furnishings.

Freecycle is a good one for giving away the rug to someone for free in your community.

3_Donate

A really positive way of giving a rug a longer life - although it may not be as simple as taking clothes to a charity shop because not everyone will accept a rug especially if it’s oversized. Again, the rug should be in good condition before donation.

Here’s a couple of great organisations who take rug donations:

London: Furnishing Futures

UK: British Heart Foundation

4_Recycle

We believe recycling should only be considered if your rug is not in the right condition for any of the above options. Rugs & carpets can be broken down into fibres and reused for numerous products including underlay and materials used for gardening.

It’s really important to make sure that the rug is going to the right place in order for it to be recycled as taking it to the local recycling centre could mean that it will still end up in landfill. It’s at this point that you can get in touch with Anglo Recycling, who are helping to close the loop on carpet waste.
