Carpet Design Awards 2024: Best Interior
A prestigious CDA award in recognition of an interior scheme that showcases a series of handmade rugs designs. In order to capture the craftsmanship and modernity of the VERSO collection, we worked with interior stylist Hannah Franklin to create an interior space that complemented these themes. Shot at Ahm House, a residential home designed by Jørn Utzon (who designed The Sydney Opera House), Hannah Franklin sought furnishing pieces that would echo quality design through craft, perfectly balancing the rugs within the home.
The interior which exudes bold geometry and materiality, with concrete beams, wooden panelling and exposed brickwork, is an engineering and architectural masterpiece. The glass-covered elements of the structure play with the environment and create ambiguity on the lines between interior and exterior. This emulated the collection perfectly, enhancing the compositional rug designs inspired by manhole coverings spotted on the streets of East London. The mixture of colours creates a defined sense of space that challenges, yet complements, the style of any room.
These combinations create an exciting contemporary aesthetic, the architecture of the building itself acts as a magnifying glass into the many layers of craftsmanship through artisanal textiles and objects. The raw and stripped back elements of the interior have been balanced with bursts of colour from the rugs and furnishing pieces such as the Togo by Ligne Roset, upholstered with a special 50th anniversary jacquard print fabric, as well as wooden coffee tables by Fred Rigby. This is quality design at its finest.
A huge congratulations to the team who worked on this project!
