Din Dins: Rugs Designed for Good

A flatwoven rug collection which stems from the idea of sharing food as an act of love and named after the child’s word for dinner.

When we gather around to have food with family and friends, we use tablecloths and blankets to give a sense of comfort as well as functionality. The traditional checkered pattern, so often seen in this setting, has been used within these contemporary rug designs using a bold colour palette to bring a fun and uplifting mood to any space.

The proceeds of each of these rugs will go directly to Choose Love to fund their work supporting refugees in 30 countries.

The Din Dins collection consists of checkered rugs designed in three colourways: Orange Mono, Purple Mono and Pink Mono.

These contemporary, chequered designs full of vibrant colour creates a statement piece for a space while being part of a positive story. As flatwoven rugs they are naturally hard-wearing, making them perfect for underneath a dining table or areas with footfall.

Made in a flatwoven construction in 100% New Zealand wool, they come in various sizes starting from £450, as well as custom options starting from £225 per sqm. The collection is Goodweave certified, meaning that fair wages and decent working conditions are met throughout the manufacturing process.

These rugs are the product of highly skilled weaving techniques and are pieces to be cherished.

You may have heard of Choose Love through their innovative online and pop-up shop where, as founder Josie Naughton puts it, ‘People come in, buy items we distribute and leave with nothing’. To break it down, you can buy much-needed items for refugees, such as a ‘Bundle of Warmth’ which includes necessities such as blankets and hot food.

There’s also support directly for the LGBTQIA+ community as well as women’s support and safety, along with many vital ‘bundles’’ to improve the well-being of refugees across the globe. They also fund on-the-ground response work for those facing emergencies such as the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The collaborative element of Choose Love is an integral part of fundraising and raising awareness of the organisation and its positive impact.

FLOOR_STORY has long been a supporter of Choose Love, the pioneering new movement in humanitarian response that has been supporting refugees and displaced people since 2015. At Christmas we would usually ‘Buy the Shop’ at Choose Love’s annual pop-up store but this year we were keen to take our support up a notch.

What began as a conversation about creating a non-profit rug has resulted in the launch of a two-part collaboration which features a collection of handwoven rugs along with a series of hand knotted rug art pieces.

These rugs are a celebration of what Choose Love does, what they stand for and most importantly - the precious lives being saved as an outcome of their on the ground work.
