POoR Collective

POoR Collective embodies a collaborative methodology, their designwork amplifies the voices and imagination of young people within their locality.

POoR Collective formed through a shared belief in centralising public spaces around those who inhabit them by working together to envision how these environments should look and function. Literally meaning Power Out of Restriction, Shawn, Larry, Matt, Ben and Akmaral collectively work on projects that involve participation from young people and community groups to engage residents in architectural and spatial design.

Routed in conversation, the design group are tuned into ways of creating engaging and educational spaces through listening and collective building workshops that facilitate creative outcomes like flags, sculptures, interior schemes and murals.

Visible within public spaces, museums and galleries, the collective have grown their portfolio through an active approach to building spaces, those that facilitate meaningful human interactions through storytelling and inspiring moments of reflection.

Because our practice regularly works with the communities and young people from the housing estates in various neighborhoods around the city, it felt important not only to reference the architectural language, but also celebrate it, and to recognize the cultural and social significance of these buildings within the city
