Waves by Amechi Mandi

The rugs take the shape of waved forms, recreating the sense of tranquility Amechi Mandi finds when visiting seascape landscapes.

This playful collection has an animated aesthetic, with clean, carved lines brought to life by bright oranges, greens and pinks in perfect harmony with natural beige tones.

Our collaboration came about after spotting Amechi through the House & Garden Rising Star 2022 prize. The collection itself is influenced by meditation, something that Amechi finds as a key part of his everyday life. Amechi finds his mind visiting seaside landscapes whenever he’s in this state of mind, the backdrop specifically related to the memory of, as a young child, visiting his Uncle who lives on the coast.

Amechi Mandi is a Cameroonian-born homewares designer now based in London who founded his homewares brand Amechi, which draws upon influences from his heritage after finding a gap in the market for traditional, non-colonised African Textiles. Amechi’s creativity evolved from his surroundings and community in his hometown Douala and has since touched upon many creative fields such as product design, fashion and interiors.

As a homewares designer, Amechi knows that it’s the details that emphasises the essence of individuality to a space. With this in mind, these rugs are designed to be customised, their linear shapes can be translated into almost any colourway combination with our custom services.

This collection opens up floor spaces, moving away from the traditional rectangular rug and instead sees overlapping abstract shapes creating unusual outlines. Their animated, shell-like motifs in bright hues of orange, pinks and greens along with more natural tones are a brilliant way of adding a dose of personality to your space.
