The Duke

Trifle* Creative has masterfully transformed an East-End pub into a high-end residential haven, breathing new life into its historic bones.

This 3,500 sq ft space is a harmonious blend of traditional charm and contemporary luxury, where vibrant colours, rich textures, and homely furnishings create a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere.

The design ethos of "repair, restore, and reimagine" guided every decision, resulting in a collection of meticulously crafted surfaces that celebrate the building’s heritage while embracing modern living.

Working closely with the Trifle* team, we developed a series of custom rugs tailored to the precise colour palettes and functional needs of the home. Every detail was considered, from the construction to the context of each room.

For the master bedroom, which also welcomes canine companions, we designed a low-pile, flatwoven rug for durability and ease of maintenance. To honor the home’s traditional elements, we sourced vintage rugs from Istanbul, featuring floral patterns in vibrant colorways that echo the ornate features of the space.

The designers at Trifle* envisioned a series of rugs to soften and complement the historical varnished wood flooring, adding a layer of tactility and warmth to the home. With a distinctive look and feel already in place, the challenge was to design bespoke rugs that seamlessly aligned with the aesthetic vision while enhancing the character of each space.

Running up the walls of the winding staircase, a floral yellow House of Hackney wallpaper sets the surrounding palette, cleverly paired with the Little Greene Yellow-Pink paint and a bespoke stair runner in gold and blush.

The rug itself was tribute to the clients grandmother, a feature that evoked a sense of sentimentality, as the Trifle* put it ‘a thread of memory woven into the everyday’. After developing some design options based on the brief set by the interior designers, the client was able to select their favourite which was then tufted and fitted into the home.

The result is a collection of rugs that not only enhance the aesthetic but also ground the home in comfort and style:

• Theatre Room: A bespoke chequered flatwoven rug in red and gold anchors the space, with colors perfectly matched using our wool pom coloring system. The geometric design adds a bold yet balanced statement to the room.
• Master Bedroom: An abstract pink tonal geometric rug in a flatweave construction brings softness and tactility, creating a serene yet striking focal point.
• Staircase: A bespoke two-tone irregular stripe runner cascades down two stories, adding a dynamic visual element that ties the home together.
• Vintage Rugs: These rugs perfectly honed in on the bold floral maximalist furnishings within the spaces, uniting each room whilst letting the story unfold by ranging each room with different schemes.
