Carpet Design Awards 2024: Best Collection

It’s an absolute honour to have won another CDA award and this time in recognition of an entire collection. The Carpet Design Awards continue to be the most prestigious in the rug and carpet industry, celebrating its 18th year of recognising pioneering design in all things rugs.

We launched the VERSO collection in our East London showroom, as part of an installation created in partnership with designers Trifle*, during the London Design Festival 2023. It’s the first time that we’ve created Turkish and Moroccan knot rugs, and we were totally blown away by the texture created by the Ghazni wool, sourced in Afghanistan where the rugs were woven. The pile is the perfect canvas for the designs which were inspired by manhole coverings spotted around East London and translated into colour palettes that create a sense of urban design with a sense of sophistication, constructed through weave. The outcome is a series of modern, handmade rugs that create interest in residential interior spaces through their compositional designs.

This collection goes further than aesthetics. The rugs are woven as part of a partnership with a local Afghan NGO, with the objective of maintaining a steady workflow to support the predominantly female weavers through education and health services whilst preserving the craft of weaving.
